I was pondering the Father's love for me and started thinking about Gary Smally's book The Five Love Languages. God said that he not only loves but that He is Love (1 John 4:8). So I wondered if I could find a reference that demonstrates God's use of each of the five love languages. This is what I came up with.
Acts of Service: Matthew 20:28 (NKJV) 28 "just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."
Gifts: Romans 6:23 (NKJV) "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Physical Touch: Mark 10:13 (NKJV) "Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them."
Quality Time: Revelation 3:20 (NKJV) "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me."
Words of Affirmation: 1 Peter 2:9 (NKJV) "But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light."
It looks like God's love scored a perfect 5, and "perfect love drives away fear" (1 John 4:18).
Are there other verses you can think of?
