Why I Write

I write for a number of reasons.  I write because it fulfills something inside me, and it is me being more of who I was created to be..  I do it because I hope people will read what I write, but I will continue regardless.  I write because I feel I have something to share with others.  However, I credit all of these reasons and many others to the main reason I write.

The main reason I write is because of Mr. Richard King.  Mr. King was my 10th grade English teacher.  He required us to write at the beginning of each class.  It was only for a couple of minutes, but our pencils were not allowed to stop.  We could write whatever we wanted.  He was just checking that we were writing.  I started writing a short story.  I looked forward to that time everyday.  It was the first time a teacher made writing fun for me.  It was not returned covered in red ink.  I did not have to read it to the class.  It was just for me.  Mr. King taught English with such a passion and love for the subject.  He was not focused on getting through the curriculum or making sure we were prepared for a test.  He wanted us to love literature and writing as much as he did.  I am not sure if there were others, but for me, it worked.

Writing has been such an important part of my life through the years.  It has helped me get through some very painful times.  Writing continues to provide a listening ear for me when I need to express myself.  The beauty of the impact of Mr. King on my life is that I am now in a classroom sharing my passion for writing with my students.  This just adds to the list of reasons why I write.  Thank you Mr. King for sharing your passion for writing with me.  You are the reason I write.

We never know what kind of impact our life will have on others.  What passion do you have that you are sharing with others?
