We Are All Busy

Image result for busy

So often I will ask someone the question "How are you?"  I do not mean it in the passing, I don't really want to hear way that it is often used.  I really want to know.  The answer I hear way to much is "I am busy" or "It's been busy lately, you know".  Busy has become a trophy; a medal that we wear. We are proud to be busy.  Busy likes to bait and switch us.  We are proud of ourselves for being busy and then like a snap we feel guilty.  If we are busy we must be getting something done.  That something must be important.  Right?  We all know that feeling when we have burned the candle at both ends only to look back and realize we have not completed anything of importance.  Then we feel guilty because we are not living the lives we want and we beat ourselves up.  It gets worse.  We start buying into the lie that if our kids are busy they are happy.  Research after research keeps showing that is not true. We live these busy unfulfilled lives and drag our kids with us and don't look up until we have hit the wall.  We have lost what is most important to us.  We have missed those critical opportunities with the ones we love.  We are left with nothing but regret.  It does not have to end that way.  There is hope and all the things we have to do can get done.  In his book Start, Jon Acuff lays out a simple 5 step plan to getting it all done.

5 Steps To Getting It All Done By Jon Acuff

1 Admit that you can't possibly get it all done
2 give yourself the grace to accept that as reality, not failure.
3 Do the things you can do with your full attention
4 Celebrate what happens during step 3 instead of obsessing over the things you didn't get to
5 Repeat as necessary

Lets stop hiding behind our busyness and take an honest look at what is most important, relationships.  Don't let busy play the bait and switch game on you.  Prioritize what is most important, focus on that, and you will get all that done.
