The Shack Through My Eyes

I shared some of these thoughts on Facebook, but I thought I would share them here.  When the book "The Shack" came out there was a lot of controversy.  Now that it has been turned into a movie the conversation has started back up.  So here is my review.

I have read the book three times and watched the movie last night. The author never had the intent of writing a theology book. He was using fiction to explain the emotions of his own journey in life to his family. It just happened to hit the best seller list. Yes, the movie does not exactly follow the book. I am glad for that because I did not have 8 hrs to watch the movie. One line the movie left out that I love is when asked if all roads lead to God, Papa responds, "No, but I will go down any road to find one of my lost children." This is such a great picture of God's heart for us.  He really loves us and will do whatever it takes to have a relationship with us.

One of the negative things I have heard is that the trinity being played by people is not accurate and impossible,  Well, unfortunately no spirits showed up for auditions. There is a literary term and it is called personification. There was no outcry when trees talked and moved in The Lord of the Rings or when a woman played the part of Satan in The Passion of the Christ. It amazes me how up in arms religions people get when someone creates something that falls under the category I would call religious fiction.

Here is my advice if you read the book or watch the movie is this: sit back and enjoy the story. If you find some truth in it that is beneficial for you, take it. If not, you experienced a good story.
