Hello My Name Is . . .

Image result for hello my name is

Stupid, rich, clumsy, loser, poor, lucky, failure, sinner, driven, chicken-what labels are you wearing? We pick them up throughout our lives.  Like name tags, we just stick them one on top of the other

Not all labels are bad.  However, the labels become a problem when they get attached to our identity. When we have so many labels over our heart we can't find our true self anymore.  We forget who we are and what our true name is.

The best place to start in figuring out who you are is to figure out who Jesus is.  In Matthew 16, there are all these people talking about who is Jesus.  Is he a prophet, teacher, or really God?  Jesus looks to Simon and says "Who do you say that I am?" In verse 17 "Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter . . ."

Jesus tells him not only who he was in the past; "Simon son of Jonah".  He also tells him who he is now.  "you are Peter".  Jesus goes on to tell him what he will become as he walks in this new identity.

What labels do you need to pull off?
Who do you say Jesus is?
Have you ever taken the time to ask Jesus who you are and then waited for the answer?
What is your true name?
