The Evidence is in the Blood

There is an obsession in my house with CBS crime TV shows.  They always follow the same pattern.  It goes something like this with small variations. There is a crime, the show makes you think that a character is guilty, the main characters start gathering evidence.  There is some minute piece of evidence that shows up that brings it all together.

With all of the development that has happened in the study of genetics, DNA has become a huge part of forensic science.  It has also caused huge development in the field of genealogy.  If you had some of my blood and some of my father's blood you could have it tested and it would show, without a shadow of a doubt, that we are related.  My father's blood runs in my veins.  The proof is in the blood.

This is not the case with an adopted child.  There is no blood work that can show relationship.  This can be frustrating for adoptive children.  It plants a seed of doubt about a parent's commitment.  So why would God make the comparison in our relationship with him to adoption?

Alex Rahill says "There are surprise pregnancies, but there are no surprise adoptions.  Adopted children are chosen children."  God says the same about us through the Apostle Paul in Ephesians chapter 1.

"vFor he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he[b] predestined us for adoption to sonship[c] through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will—"

In God's eyes, we are chosen children.  You say "Where is the evidence? If the evidence is in the blood how can be sure of God's commitment to me?"

The evidence is in the blood.  Keep reading.

to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace

Jesus said I will pour out my evidence of my commitment to you.  I will freely give my blood to show my commitment and love to you.  Not only will my blood flow through you it will flow over you.  It will cleanse you and seal you as my chosen child.

If you have doubt about God's love for you, where you are, look at the evidence.
