Sometimes You Have To Do A Factory Reset

Do you ever have problems with your computer?  It feels like you are connected with dial-up internet.  If you don't understand what I just said, consider yourself lucky.  I do not know much about computers.  I am typing this on Chromebook.  Often this computer gets bogged down and starts running slowly.  The only thing I know to do to fix it is these three steps; 1. restart the computer, 2. clear the history, and 3. reset to factory settings.

Sometimes my life feels that way.  It starts getting bogged down and not running properly.  Do you ever feel that way or is it just me?  When life starts feeling that way the same three steps that fix my computer can help fix a bogged-down life.  Step one is restart.  Take a deep breath and restart.  For me, that is getting back to the basics.  It is getting back to my morning routine, making healthy food choices, and making sure I am exercising.

The next step is to clear the history.  I can't go back and change what happened earlier today, yesterday, or last year.  It is in the past.  If I sit and focus on the past it will keep bogging down my present.  If I got sucked into a social media endless scroll this morning the only two options would be to waste the afternoon or let the morning go and move on and make the most of the afternoon.

The last step is to do a factory reset.  When you reset a device to the factory settings you are returning it to the way it was originally designed to work.  This final step is the foundation of getting life back on track.  When you reset your life to factory settings you are going back to life the way your Creator designed you to live.  You see, Jesus said, "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."*  In order to live life to the full it starts with knowing your identity.  Knowing who you were created to be and what you were created to do.  It is all about knowing "who you are and whose you are".  For me, there are two things that help me with this.   Number one is connecting with creation.  God gave us this earth to enjoy and if I am in my house staring at a virtual world all day I am missing out on what I am created to be.  The second, is writing and speaking.  That is what God wired me to do.  When I am living in to that, along with enjoying nature, it is like hitting the reset button.

What is it for you?  Yours might be painting, building something with your hands, fixing something, or growing vegetables.  What makes you feel the most connected to the God who created you and the earth He created for you to enjoy.  Restart, clear the history, and do a factory reset.  Get back to living the way you were created to live.

  1. I enjoyed reading your thoughts on needing to frequently reset our thoughts, our day, our lives. Your use of the computer illustration helped me think of it in a different way.
