Virtual Reality Part 1

I love this line from the movie Divergent, "This isn't real."  If you haven't seen the movie, Tris, is placed in a sim where she has to face her greatest fears.  The way she handles the feal is she reminds herself that what she is experiencing isn't real. 

I have done some work for a company that puts on casino parties.  There is nothing really at stake, except maybe a prize for the biggest winners.  I often remind people at my tables when they are trying to decide to call or fold, "This isn't real."  This is not a real casino with real money on the line.  If you make the wrong choice, nothing is really lost.  

I recently tried VR for the first time.  It was quite fun and I think I would enjoy owning a headset.  I was amazed at how fast I forgot reality.  I kept thinking I was going to fall down a hole or really get hit by something.  

Did you know when you worry about the future it isn't real?  That's right.  The future does not exist.  It is only a virtual reality that we have created in our minds.  Think about it.  When was the last time you imagined what a certain event or experience was going to be like and it turned out exactly as you imagined?  Fear is the only thing that lives in the future.  It is impossible to be afraid of the present.  

Next time fear starts creeping up just remind yourself, "This isn't real." and focus on the present.  Focus on the task right in front of you.  Don't let virtual reality steal the joy of your reality.  Focus on the reality right in front of you, the beautiful real world that God created, the people in your life, and the blessings you do have.
