I remember when household microwaves first started becoming popular. These things were mammoth. They were just slightly smaller than the traditional oven. These things were going to take the place of ovens across the United States. Things would be cooked in minutes. Imagine the infomercial for this new invention. Some slicked dress guy in a fancy kitchen. He would cook a turkey, some potatoes, and some green beans on a traditional oven. While this was going on he would neatly arrange the same items in a microwave safe dish and cook this meal in minutes. Not only that, there is only one dish to wash. As the case with most "As Seen on TV" items, the food does not come out the same as it does on TV. My dad was convinced this was the way of the future and we had to eat one of those very chewy microwaved turkeys.
Then I remember the cell phone making its way to America. These things were carried in large leather bags and had to be plugged into the lighter in the car to work. The charge was around $1 USD per minute to use. These were going to take the place of land lines. Now this one has come very clese to happening, but land lines are still here.
So many things have been developed in my lifetime. Some things have disappeared and replaced by other things. In 45 years we will be cruising around in flying cars like George and his wife Jane. We live in a world of constant change. It can be scary at times. In the midst of all this change here is one thing we can count on not changing. "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever" (Hebrews 13:8). Get to know him and you will find he can be trusted in the midst of the storm of change.
