Riding in a Car is Stupid

I want to go skydiving.  That is one of my bucket list items.  People tell me I am crazy and that it is too dangerous.  Look at life through my eyes and then tell me how dangerous jumping out of a plane is.

I am in the middle of an exciting stage of life.  I am teaching my oldest child how to drive.  This is not only exciting, it can also be terrifying at times.  If you passed us on the road you might think it is just a bad driver.  You might assume it is a new driver.  On a good day you might assume it is just another driver.  Yes, person in the car that just passed us going the other way, you almost died.  You have no idea that I just yelled or grabbed the wheel to save your life and mine.  It is not just my vehicle you have to worry about. My son has friends.  They are all learning to drive too.  There are hundreds of these student drivers on the road and you pass them every day.  You pass them on the highway with only a few feet separating you.

If we only knew the level of incompetence that the DMV allows behind the wheel we would think twice before getting in that car.  In Colorado, my son only had to pass a written test about some basic rules of the road.  They did not check to see if I was a good driver, qualified to teach someone to drive, or make sure that he had some basic understanding of how to drive a car.  When I was living in North Carolina I had a friend that was 99 years old.  He drove everyday to the Chick-fil-A where I worked to eat lunch.  One day he came in for lunch and told me he just had his license renewed for 6 years.  He even saw this as ridiculous.  I am not even talking about DUI and other illegal drivers. These are people that DMV has declared legal drivers.

You think jumping out of a plane is crazy.  When I pass you on the street I will be thinking you should stay at that stop sign a little longer.  You should have waited five more minutes before you left your house.  You should have taken that other road on your way to work.  Their are parents everywhere trying to teach teenagers how to drive.  The streets are filled with drivers that are not capable of driving.  I will continue to get in a car everyday.  However, I will also continue to declare it one of the stupid things I do everyday.

What are some of the other stupid things we do that we consider normal activity?
